Ancient Terra Cotta Head of a Roman Soldier, circa AD 200, Provenance. He's full of character, this miniature terra cotta Roman soldier in battle gear, and he's about 2,000 years old! My documentation says he comes from Alexandria, Egypt, second century AD. But how utterly Italianate are his features! I suspect he was created by a Roman artisan or artist living in the Empire. It's high quality work. Dimensions are about 2 inches high, and with the wooden socle included a little over 4 inches high. I see some restoration/consolidation of the back of the head, and a small repair to the nose. General appearance is very good, and there is lots of pleasure to be had from this small treasure, for a modest price!
